Danny's Story Home

Not recently, if ever, I would bet. Most of what is out there seems to comprise of collected short stories or supposed true-life accounts of erotic encounters which are more likely to be the writers' secret fantasies. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of gratuitous titillation as much as the next guy but I also like a good read. Over the years I have only come across a handful of books that fit the bill and then, a few months ago I got talking to Kenny.

During our conversation it came out that, over the last four years, Kenny had written a novel. However, he was now in somewhat of a quandary as he felt that maybe the story was a little too risqué (to say the least) for mainstream publishers. He had considered self-publishing but didn't fancy the prospect of paying out a lot of money for a garage full of books that he was unsure how to sell. I've never been a great believer in fate but something had brought us together at just the right time. You see, my background is in e-commerce and I had recently become involved in electronic publishing, albeit non-fiction.

Hi Kenny. Just finished reading your book. A fabulous story, I couldn't put it down. I particularly liked the way Danny discovered love, it was there all the time but he just didn't realise it! Every chapter was a new adventure. I didn't want it to end. Will there be a sequel?

And so, DannysStory.com was born. I could only see one possible problem; Was the book any good? Would people buy it? 300 pages and 200,000 words later I had my answer - YES, it was better than good. But maybe you would think that my enthusiasm for the project was clouding my judgement so we decided to get a few independent opinions. We gave away a few copies of the book in return for an honest review, good or bad. One thing I soon discovered is that not everyone reads as quickly as I do!! After a couple of weeks all the "votes" were in and the verdict was overwhelmingly positive. Some of the comments Kenny received are highlighted in yellow on this page.

Hi Kenny, I just had to write and tell you that I was so taken by your story of Danny and the lovely way their friendship started and how they went on to become lovers. You could feel the tenderness toward each other as you turn the pages. Their escapades were extremely interesting and there was no way I could put the book down and can't wait to read more about Danny & Mike - hope you have got a sequel to this book as I want to be the first to buy it. I could go on about the story but I may spoil it for others who will buy Danny's Story. Looking forward to the next one.

A couple of people had minor difficulties with some of the vocabulary (Kenny is from London, England) and one of the younger readers said that he enjoyed the story, "a great read", even though he could not relate to the the time period (1960), "what decade is this set. I get the impression it was before my time, not that it matters". For the Love of Mike is a charming romantic tale of burgeoning love between two lads. In the true spirit of romance, they battle through adversity and, at times, life-threatening dangers, to find in each other the strength and inspiration to triumph, and to find their gay love for each other is stronger than all assailants. The pace rattles on and the insight into young passions and feelings is sensitively drawn. At the turn of every page I wanted to know how our heroes extricated themselves from trouble, and also how their blossoming love grew and flourished. It is a classic tale, well told with a difference, and with a sting in the tail!
